General Information

Initial Consultations

These are first-time, structured appointments during which I will gather important information about your history and presenting concerns—think of it sort of like an intake appointment. We can also begin talking about your goals for therapy—what it is you’d like to get out of our time together, if we decide to work together—and I will go over my practice policies, so I can answer any questions you may have about them. Another important purpose of this appointment is for you to start getting a sense of what it is like to work with me. If we both feel it’s a good fit, we will set a regular time for individual therapy sessions. If it doesn’t feel like the right fit, for any reason, I’d be happy to offer some ideas for other therapists in your area who may be a better fit for you.

Individual Therapy

I offer short-term and long-term psychotherapy to adolescents and adults. Whether short or long-term therapy will be recommended for you depends on the goals you set, and may also depend on your diagnosis (if one is given for insurance-related reasons). Some people prefer a more solution-focused approach, while others appreciate the option for longer-term processing and checking in. We can discuss this during your initial consultation and first few appointments with me. At this time, I am exclusively offering services via telehealth sessions (using a secure and HIPAA-compliant video platform) for clients in Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC.

Adoption Consultations

I’ve spent years working in the adoption and foster care fields, and I’m an adult adoptee myself—so I also offer adoption-related consultations, for those who are considering becoming adoptive or foster parents. These are typically one-time, 60-minute appointments, during which I gather some brief information about you and offer some recommendations and suggestions for further consideration (knowing I cannot offer any specific approvals for adoption). These are not therapy appointments, per se, although you are welcome to let me know if you’d like to pursue therapy with me after we meet. I can also tailor these to other therapists, if you are a therapist and would like to learn more about working with members of the adoption circle.

Supervision

I am a board-approved supervisor in the state of Maryland and can offer supervision for LGSWs working towards advanced licensure. My approach to supervision is developmental, meaning that I take into account the fact that the ways in which social workers learn, and practice, changes with their age, experience and developmental stage. I consider myself an integrative supervisor, meaning I can adapt my style to what I think will work best for your unique personality, clinical style and career goals. I understand supervision to be a dynamic process, changing over time and according to what each supervisee brings in to the supervision experience. Please call for more information!

Practice Policies: Payment is due at time of service and is accepted by credit card, Venmo, check or cash. For ongoing clients, I keep credit card information stored securely on my HIPAA-compliant electronic medical record system, so you’re covered in case you’re caught without your card (or in case of a late cancellation—see below). I don’t require clients to keep their credit card information, though most people prefer the convenience of doing so—if you opt not to, I may ask that you pay at the beginning of our session.

I also have a 48-hour cancellation policy. If you do not cancel a session within 48 hours (barring a significant health issue or emergency), I will do my best to offer other options for rescheduling an in-person session, and can offer teletherapy or virtual therapy sessions for clients in Maryland, DC and Virginia. If we are unable to find another time within the week, I reserve the right to charge a late cancellation fee. No-shows are also always subject to my full session fee. I appreciate you respecting these policies and am happy to answer any questions you may have about them.
